For those who are not aware, Tommy Wafflez (pictured left) was once an integral part of the NetherRealm Community. As a part of the once dominant GGA team, Tommy traveled regularly with teammates Dizzy, 16Bit, Pimpimjim, and Jeremiah to a multitude of tournaments around the nation. In Mortal Kombat 9, he played quite convincingly the best Smoke that the community has ever seen. In 2013, he accomplished an illustrious win at Final Round, and went on to moderate success in Injustice: Gods Among Us. The newly released Injustice 2 marks the return of Tommy to the scene that he helped grow, still representing the Galloping Ghost Arcade brand. We caught up with him to ask him a few questions prior to the action this weekend;
Expect fireworks this weekend as the fighting game community journeys to Illinois for a tournament of epic proportions. Along with games such as Street Fighter 5, Super Smash Brothers, and Killer Instinct, Injustice 2 is making its first significant appearance on the tournament scene with a $20,000 dollar pot bonus. There are currently 367 registered participants expected to appear at Combo Breaker this weekend, and this includes players from the United States as well as overseas. With the game in its infancy, expect the unexpected as unseen and undiscovered characters will shine. There is a lot to look forward to this weekend with so much at stake for these players. Here’s a brief list of players expected to take part in the competition;
Earlier today MLG announced via Twitter that passes for Injustice: Gods Among Us and Killer Instinct would go on sale at 5 P.M. ET. This post is to inform all of my Injustice and fighting game readers that the passes are, in fact, now on sale. Below I will keep a comprehensive list of entrants for both games up until the event. Also I will provide the links that you can follow to buy your pass. The ultimate goal here is to reach the 128-player cap that MLG has set. This would encourage Major League Gaming to keep fighting games around and prove that the Injustice and Killer Instinct players deserve this recognition.

We here at Make Plays, Not Excuses thoroughly enjoy Injustice: Gods Among Us. We enjoy it so much, that we are going to be hosting an online tournament with prizes to be won. This tournament is FREE TO ENTER. I haven’t quite decided what the tournament will cap out at, but it will likely cap out at 24 players. This tournament is open to anyone who plays Injustice and wants to gain some experience in an online tournament setting. Here are the rules for the tournament as it stands.
- Best 2 out of 3 due to the length of time it will take.
- Open to players of the United States and Canada only.
- Connection complaints are ill-advised.
- Double random stage select.
- Winners are character locked.
- Losers can either switch characters, or do another double random stage select.
- This tournament will operate on the honor system when reporting a match.
- To be safe, it is recommended that players take picture proof of a win in case of any foul play.
- If a match is disputed by both players and no proof is provided, I will sit in on a king of the hill match and that will decide the winner.
- Since it is free to play, this tournament will be unseeded.
Brackets will be created via Challonge and a stream is not in place to this point. If a streamer wants to participate they are more than welcomed and it would be greatly appreciated. Here are the prizes for the top three placements in this tournament:
- 1st Prize will receive $15 dollars via PayPal, a spot in the Make Plays, Not Excuses Hall of Fame, and will receive priority seeding for future MPNE tournaments.
- 2nd Prize will receive a PAX code of your choice and priority seeding for future MPNE tournaments.
- 3rd Prize will receive a PAX code of your choice and priority seeding for future MPNE tournaments.
The date right now is set to be this Saturday, April 26th starting @ 9 PM Eastern. However a vote will be held on a Test Your Might thread to gauge whether people would rather the tournament be this weekend or next weekend. Any other questions will also be answered in that thread.
These standings have been updated to reflect NorCal Regionals 2014. The next Premiere Capcom Pro Tour event will be held in Singapore at the South East Asia Majors.
